Scarification

  • Scarification removes organic matter such as thatch or moss that has an adverse effect on the health of the lawn
  • Layers of thatch greater than 1cm deep can impede water and fertiliser take-up, encourages moss and weeds to take over
  • Stops debris build-up that hinders grass growth
  • Best in Spring (light) or Autumn (deeper) when grass has a chance to recover. Don’t do during “out of growing season” winter months
  • Follow up with fertiliser and re-seeding / top-dressing as required
  • Standard as part of our complete programme

fusarium

Fusarium Patch and Snow Mold

A common cause of brown patches on lawns found most frequently during autumn or mild spells in Winter. Unfortunately, it is one of the most damaging lawn diseases and can be difficult to control.
Patches increase in size and may reach 30cm in diameter, often merging to form larger areas.

red thread pl

Red Thread

A common cause of patches of dead grass, particularly when nitrogen is deficient. Rarely kills grass completely  and grass recovers with treatment. Common in late summer and autumn. Most serious for red fuscue grasses, but also attacks other grass types. Fungicides are effective, but also treat the underlying cause.

dollar spot

Dollar Spot

Rare in the UK, attacks finer grasses such as red fescues. Occurs mid spring to early autumn. Fungicides are an effective treatment.

anthracnose

Anthracnose

This is rare in the UK, most commonly affecting annual meadow grass – can be mistaken for drought, however worsens when watered. Occurs when the lawn is stressed due to low fertility, compaction, drought and excessive low mowing heights. Fungicides are effective, but the underlying causes must be addressed as well.

rust

Rust

Rust diseases are some of the oldest deseases know to attack grass. They are capable of killing the leaves, but generally not the entire plant; cannot grow in soil. Fungicides dry out the fungal spores allowing the grass to fight the disease; so cultural methods are also advised – ie best maintenance practices of our seasonal programmes.
